Season 4: Tidal Strike is more than another cosmetic event in Battlefield 6. Update 1.4.3.0 touched several layers at once: the Deep Six Collection Event, a new Phantom Program operation in REDSEC, Proximity Chat testing, a broad reticle overhaul, meaningful changes to Tsuru Reef Breakthrough, and major expansion of Portal and Custom Lobby tools. There is also one genuinely confusing timing issue: EA’s older Tidal Strike event guide still says Deep Six runs through September 29, while the current Battlefield 6 home page and the 1.4.3.0 patch notes both say October 12. This guide resolves that conflict instead of hiding it, then focuses on what is active now, what has already ended, what deserves your time first, and which changes actually alter how matches play.
1) What Tidal Strike actually changed
Update 1.4.3.0 launched September 15 with Tidal Strike. Deep Six and Phantom Program are the headline additions, but the patch is broader: gameplay and handling improvements for Transport Helicopters, RCB90s and Scout Helicopters; gunplay/readability work; more REDSEC changes; larger Portal and Custom Lobby toolsets; UI and presentation polish; audio changes; AI navigation improvements; and a full reticle pass across optics, launchers and gadgets. Returning players should therefore expect more than a new playlist. Sight pictures, vehicle feel, REDSEC flow and Tsuru Reef’s Breakthrough layout can all feel meaningfully different.
2) Deep Six deadline: September 29 or October 12?
EA’s own pages currently conflict. The Tidal Strike event guide published September 14 still says Deep Six runs September 15–29. The 1.4.3.0 patch notes say September 15–October 12, and the current Battlefield 6 homepage actively promotes Deep Six “Until Oct 12th.” When an older article conflicts with both the current live homepage and patch notes, October 12 is the stronger operational date today. Zaplat advice: do not treat an extension as permission to procrastinate until the final evening. Live-service schedules can still be adjusted, and finishing progression early removes that risk.
3) How Deep Six progression works
EA centers Deep Six around two actions: completing contracts and collecting intel devices. Progress can be made across Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. Completed challenges push your collection forward toward Weapon Packages, customization rewards and the final Royal Navy Dive Knife. The efficient approach is not to chase one reward blindly. Check the active contracts first, then choose playlists where multiple objectives can overlap. EA’s own tips reinforce the same pattern: complete contracts regularly, squad up for objectives, watch for intel devices, and diversify playlists so you do not miss event opportunities.
4) What it takes to unlock the Royal Navy Dive Knife
EA presents the Royal Navy Dive Knife as the ultimate reward for completing the full Collection Event. In practical terms, it is not a first-login reward or something guaranteed by a fixed number of matches. The official sources tie progression to contracts and intel collection rather than a universal “play X games” counter. If the knife is your goal, treat Deep Six as a progression project and clear the event objectives methodically. Be cautious with guides that promise a fixed match count without checking your live contract state.
5) Phantom Program is a different type of objective
Phantom Program is a limited-time REDSEC operation, not merely another reward track. EA describes it as a hunt through Fort Lyndon for hidden intelligence, easter eggs and access-code fragments tied to the security-network breach. Successful deployments move the squad closer to the wider mystery while offering XP, Weapon Packages and other rewards. The official success tips also change the playstyle: stay near your squad, explore spaces you normally sprint through, remember not every clue is map-marked, and expect rival squads to be searching for the same objectives.
6) How Proximity Chat works right now
Proximity Chat arrived as part of Battlefield Labs for Live and Battle Royale testing. Voices are positional and directional; walls, indoor spaces and vehicles can shape what you hear. The system identifies speakers and provides mute, report and block controls. Players can swap channels or globally disable Proximity Chat near the Commo Rose. EA says up to four players can be heard at once, with additional speakers temporarily muted when the channel is full. Most importantly, EA explicitly calls this a testing period and says Proximity Chat may be switched on or off while fixes and tuning are applied.
7) The reticle overhaul matters more than it sounds
Update 1.4.3.0 reworked reticles across weapon optics, launchers and gadgets to reduce clutter and improve readability against different backgrounds. EA describes stronger glow, crisper lines and optimized sizing for center dots and reticles. If you are a precision-focused or Ranked player, it is worth revisiting optics instead of assuming your old sight choice still reads the same. EA also acknowledges a PlayStation 5 bug that gives some scopes overly thick black borders and says the team is targeting a fix in update 1.4.3.5 within the following weeks.
8) Tsuru Reef Breakthrough has changed strategically
EA expanded every sector in Tsuru Reef Breakthrough to create more flanking routes and increase boat use. Sector 1 gained two RHIBs, swapped an attacker Light Transport for an APC, expanded capture point A and moved B into a warehouse near the marina. Sector 2 also changed capture volume, vehicles and contested spawns. These are not cosmetic edits. Rotation time, pressure lanes and vehicle presence changed. If you learned Breakthrough on the older layout, treat the map as something to relearn rather than applying pre-patch routes automatically.
9) Portal and Custom Lobbies got a substantial upgrade
Tidal Strike adds King of the Hill and Domination as Verified Modes in Portal. Update 1.4.3.0 also expands Custom Lobby creation across Tactical Obliteration, Obliteration, Breakthrough, Escalation, Rush, Domination, Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch and Custom Experiences. Creator-facing reliability, spectator, scripting and Spatial Editor work also landed. For tournament groups, community servers and custom-mode players, this may be more important than the collection event because it increases the range of experiences that can be built and hosted.
10) Top Gun has not disappeared
EA extended Carrier Strike and Fighter Sweep through the end of Season 4 after player feedback. That means someone returning because of Tidal Strike has not necessarily missed the naval and aerial content introduced with Top Gun. If Deep Six progression is the priority, do not trap yourself in one mode if contracts point elsewhere. But if your reason for playing is the air-and-carrier loop, EA currently gives you the rest of the season rather than only the original Top Gun event window.
11) The Free Trial is over—do not confuse it with REDSEC
EA ran a limited Battlefield 6 Free Trial from September 15 through September 22. It included selected maps, modes, Deep Six playlists, Casual Breakthrough and Verified Portal experiences. That window has ended. REDSEC, however, is separately presented by EA as a free-to-play Battlefield destination. So an older post saying “Battlefield 6 is free this week” is date-sensitive and should not be treated as current access information. Check whether a link refers to the expired trial or to REDSEC itself.
12) What should you prioritize now?
Zaplat Gaming’s practical order is straightforward: open Deep Six and inspect your current contracts; pick playlists where multiple objectives overlap; collect intel devices instead of walking past them; if you play REDSEC, tackle Phantom Program with a squad rather than rushing it solo; retest optics after the reticle overhaul; and relearn Tsuru Reef if Breakthrough is part of your rotation. Once the time-limited systems are under control, spend the rest of your time in Portal, Custom Lobbies or Top Gun based on what you actually enjoy.
13) What to watch after 1.4.3.0
The nearest explicitly signposted patch item is 1.4.3.5, where EA says it aims to fix the overly thick black scope borders affecting some PlayStation 5 sights. Proximity Chat also remains a test feature that may be toggled during tuning. Finally, the documented Deep Six date conflict is a reminder to check the live homepage or current patch notes near the end of an event rather than relying on a screenshot from launch day. In a live service, the current operational source should outrank an older announcement when the two diverge.
Battlefield 6 Tidal Strike checklist
- Treat October 12 as the strongest current Deep Six deadline based on the live homepage and 1.4.3.0 patch notes.
- Check contracts first, then choose playlists where objectives overlap.
- Collect intel devices in Battlefield 6 and REDSEC; they are part of event progression.
- The Royal Navy Dive Knife is the full Collection Event completion reward.
- Phantom Program is a REDSEC operation built around hidden intel and access-code fragments.
- Proximity Chat is still being tested and can be toggled while EA tunes it.
- Retest optics after the reticle overhaul if your sight picture feels different.
- EA acknowledges a PS5 scope-border bug and targets 1.4.3.5 for a fix.
- Tsuru Reef Breakthrough changed routes, vehicles and spawns; relearn it.
- The Free Trial ended September 22; Top Gun modes continue through the end of Season 4.
