If you are standing at the locked briefcase in the S.T.A.R.S. Office during Resident Evil Requiem and only want the answer, enter RRR. Choose the letter R in all three positions and the case opens immediately. This puzzle does not use numbers and does not have a separate Insanity combination. The briefcase sits in the rear locker or armory area attached to the S.T.A.R.S. Office in the Raccoon Police Department. Inside is the Power Shades Charm, which gives the Requiem revolver limitless bullet penetration and increases the firepower of the last round in the cylinder.
Where is the RPD briefcase?
You visit the ruined Raccoon Police Department during the Raccoon City Center portion of the story. Once you reach the S.T.A.R.S. Office on the second floor, move into the smaller locker or armory area at the back. The locked briefcase is sitting inside one of the lockers there. Its three-letter lock makes it easy to distinguish from the rotating numeric safes found elsewhere in Requiem. Because the briefcase is optional, it is also easy to walk past if you are following only the main objective.
- Reach the second floor of the RPD.
- Enter the S.T.A.R.S. Office.
- Check the rear locker/armory area.
- Set all three letters to R and open the case.
How do you find the RRR clue legitimately?
The intended clue trail begins with Barry's To-Do List in the S.T.A.R.S. Office. That note points toward a missing book connected to Wesker. Check the small adjoining office and the desk drawer to obtain the Library Card, then go to the second-floor Library. A copy of Medicinal Benefits of Herbs appears on the western shelves. Inspect the book and you will find a photograph of Rebecca Chambers inside. Flip the photograph over and read the phrase Rising Rookie Rebecca. The first letter of each word is R, giving you R-R-R for the briefcase.
Can you open it before finding the clues?
Yes. Game8 and PowerPyx both document that the combination is fixed, so RRR works even if you have not completed the clue trail yet. That makes the puzzle very quick on a replay or a route focused on collecting combat upgrades. On a first playthrough, following the chain is still worthwhile because it adds context to the RPD section and lets the solution make sense instead of feeling like a random password. But there is no mechanical requirement to read the photograph before entering the code.
What is inside the briefcase?
The reward is the Power Shades Charm. Game8 and VGC describe it as a charm for the Requiem revolver. Its effect gives bullets limitless penetration and increases the firepower of the last bullet in the cylinder. That combination can be useful when enemies line up or when you deliberately fire down to the final round instead of reloading early. The puzzle is optional, but the reward has a direct combat benefit rather than being only a collectible or Easter egg.
Why is the answer RRR?
RRR is an abbreviation of the clue phrase Rising Rookie Rebecca, printed on the back of the Rebecca Chambers photograph hidden in the Library book. That is why guides may write the answer as RRR or R-R-R; both mean the same thing, with the letter R selected in all three slots. Do not confuse this case with Resident Evil Requiem's numeric safes, which use directional dial movements. The RPD briefcase is a separate three-letter combination lock.
One more optional RPD puzzle nearby
The police station also contains Barry's separate scavenger hunt for JoJo's Locker Key and the locked locker in the West Office. That route is not required for the RRR briefcase, but it is worth doing if you are collecting weapon Charms or clearing the RPD thoroughly. If your only goal is the Power Shades, however, you can ignore the other hunt, reach the S.T.A.R.S. Office, enter RRR, and take the reward.
Before leaving the S.T.A.R.S. Office
- You found the second-floor S.T.A.R.S. Office.
- You checked the rear locker/armory area.
- You entered RRR on the three-letter lock.
- You collected the Power Shades Charm.
- If you wanted the full clue trail, you found the Rising Rookie Rebecca photograph.
