FC 27 Free Kick Guide: Aim, Spin, Power, Dead Ball and Quick Restarts

A practical FC 27 free-kick guide covering taker selection, aim, contact point and spin, power, Dead Ball, quick free kicks, and how to diagnose misses.

FC 27 Free Kick Guide: Aim, Spin, Power, Dead Ball and Quick Restarts

Free kicks in EA SPORTS FC 27 are not solved by memorising one power value or one curl pattern. EA's current guide breaks the process into four connected decisions: choose the taker, aim at the part of goal you want, change the contact point to alter spin and trajectory, then set power. Distance, angle and the player taking the kick determine which combination makes sense.

Choose the taker before copying a technique

EA specifically recommends comparing Free Kick Accuracy, Curve and Shot Power. A player with better accuracy and curve can be more useful from a close angle, while higher Shot Power may matter more from distance. Do not choose only by Overall Rating.

What does Dead Ball do?

Dead Ball improves set-piece speed, curve and accuracy and extends the trajectory preview while you are setting up. EA's broader PlayStyles guidance also notes that PlayStyles can influence who should take free kicks, corners and penalties. Dead Ball is an advantage, not a guarantee.

Dead Ball+ pushes the effect further: exceptional set-piece speed, curve and accuracy, with the trajectory preview at maximum length.

Step 1: pick the target before the power

EA's sequence starts with aiming toward the part of goal you want to target. Decide where the ball should finish before worrying about how hard to hit it. At closer distances, a small aiming error can matter more than a small power difference.

Step 2: use contact point to control spin and height

Changing the contact point changes the ball's spin and trajectory. Use the on-screen trajectory line as a guide and experiment with different strike points to see how curve and height move. There is no single best contact point for every location.

Step 3: set power for the distance and trajectory

After aim and contact point, add the amount of power you want. EA does not publish one universal ideal power value, because the correct amount depends on distance, angle, player and trajectory. If you change the taker orspin profile, expect the useful power window to change too.

Diagnose the miss instead of guessing

EA recommends watching the result and adjusting the next attempt. If the ball hits the wall, change the height orcontact point. If it goes wide, revisit aim and curve. If it travels over the goal, reduce power oruse a contact point that produces less height. Change one variable at a time so you know what fixed the problem.

Fast troubleshooting table

  • Repeatedly hits the wall: raise the path orchange contact point before adding more power.
  • Misses outside the post: correct aim first, then retest curve.
  • Goes over the bar: reduce power orreduce the upward trajectory.
  • Drops too early: test slightly more power ora contact point that gives more height.
  • Path looks right but results vary: compare a taker with better Free Kick Accuracy/Curve orDead Ball.

Distance and angle beat the idea of one 'best spin'

EA says the best combination depends on distance, angle and the player taking the kick. A more central position may favour a simpler path, while a wider angle can make curve more valuable. Build a solution for the current location rather than forcing one universal setup.

When should you use a quick free kick?

When available, a quick free kick can restart play before the defending team resets. EA recommends looking for an open teammate first. If a fast pass creates an immediate advantage, that may be more valuable than waiting for a direct-shot setup.

When should you wait for the full setup?

If there is no open teammate, or the distance and angle create a genuine shooting opportunity for your set-piece taker, slow down and build the kick deliberately. A Dead Ball specialist with a good angle can justify waiting rather than rushing the restart.

Do not trust a universal button chart

Controls depend on platform and your control configuration. From the Main Menu, use Play > Learn to Play > Practice Arena, pause, then Button Help. From a match, pause and open Settings > Basic Controls.

The best practice method: change one variable

EA's Training Center includes free-kick work under Passing and Attacking. Practice Arena lets you repeat free kicks without waiting for a foul. The most useful routine is to lock the location and taker, then change only one variable per group of attempts.

  1. Use the same taker and the same free-kick position.
  2. Repeat several attempts with the same aim and contact point, changing only power.
  3. Reset and keep power stable while changing contact point.
  4. Keep those stable and move the aim slightly.
  5. Switch to another taker to feel the effect of attributes and Dead Ball.
  6. Keep the setup that produces repeatable trajectories, not one lucky goal.

Why Free Kick Accuracy, Curve and Shot Power all matter

They influence different parts of the kick. Free Kick Accuracy supports execution quality, Curve helps shape the path, and Shot Power matters when you need more speed orreach. Good taker selection balances the three for the location rather than chasing one highest number.

Dead Ball is not an automatic goal

Dead Ball makes a player better suited to set pieces and gives you the longer preview, but you still need a sensible target, contact point and power. The PlayStyle improves the tool; it does not remove the decision-making.

Build your own reference points

Pick three repeatable zones: just outside the box, a wider angle, and a longer central position. Practice each zone with your main taker and learn the trajectory preview, contact point and approximate power that produce stable results. If you change taker, recalibrate instead of assuming the old setup transfers perfectly.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing the taker by Overall Rating and ignoring Free Kick Accuracy, Curve and Shot Power.
  • Adding more power when the real problem is aim orcontact point.
  • Changing aim, spin and power at the same time during practice.
  • Forcing a direct shot when a quick free kick exposes an open teammate.
  • Copying a power value from a video with a different angle, distance orplayer.
  • Treating Dead Ball as a substitute for correct setup.

Zaplat decision rule

Use this order: first ask whether a quick free kick creates the better chance. If not, choose the taker, pick the target, select the contact point, then set power. After the attempt, change no more than one variable. That turns free kicks from guesswork into a repeatable process.
