If EA SPORTS FC 27 is your first Football Ultimate Team, the hardest part is not winning a match — it is deciding what to do first. Transfer Market, Chemistry, Tactics, SBCs, Evolutions, Rivals and rewards all compete for your attention. EA built the Foundations Objectives as a guided tour of FUT, so the smartest opening is not to buy players immediately or jump straight into online competition. Pick your Starter Pack, follow Foundations, learn against AI, claim rewards and improve the squad with what the mode gives you.
How do you enter Ultimate Team?
Select ULTIMATE TEAM from the main menu. EA says you can reach the main menu by continuing through the opening Champions League/The Grounds tutorial or by quitting that tutorial. Your first FUT setup then leads into the Choose Your League screen and Starter Pack selection.
Which Starter Pack should you choose?
You can select only one Starter Pack at the beginning. It influences your initial Player Items and some Foundations rewards, with more players likely to come from the two leagues you choose. EA explicitly advises new players not to stress over the decision because more Player Items arrive through normal progression. Pick leagues you enjoy or understand rather than treating the pack as a permanent club identity.
Follow Foundations before spending Coins
Open Objectives, then Foundations and The Journey Begins. The first task is simply to play a match. The broader Foundations path — including The Journey Begins, First Team Dreams, Rising Through the Ranks, Market Madness, Chasing Greatness and Total Football — is designed to teach major FUT systems while rewarding you with Player Items, Packs and Coins.
Make Squad Battles your first full match
EA recommends that a new player avoid facing another person with the starting squad and instead play Squad Battles against AI on Amateur or Semi-Pro. This lets you learn menus, controls and basic chance creation without online pressure. Squad Battles use full matches with four-minute halves and normal rules.
Use Featured/TOTW squads while you are still learning
EA notes that Featured Squad and Team of the Week Squad matches can be replayed, while weekly competition matches against the set of squads have more limited competitive value. If you are not ready to commit a weekly competition match, replay the Featured or TOTW opponent until the controls feel more natural.
Moments teaches one skill at a time
Foundations also introduces Moments. Each Moment gives you a scenario, objective, squad requirements, time limit and modifiers. Completing it earns Stars that can be exchanged for rewards such as Packs. EA recommends Foundations: Beginner Moments for newcomers, especially as a low-pressure way to learn controls, set pieces and skill moves.
Build the habit of claiming rewards
When Objective Complete appears after a match, go back to Objectives, find the tab showing completed tasks and claim the reward. This simple habit matters because unclaimed rewards cannot help your club. EA also points to the Companion App as another convenient place to claim Objectives after you have exited Ultimate Team in game.
How to build the first squad without overcomplicating it
Your Starter Pack is initially arranged in a 4-4-2. Do not rebuild everything immediately. EA warns that Out of Position Player Items have negatively affected attributes on the pitch, so your first priority is keeping players in preferred positions. Use your best natural fits, keep sensible substitutes, and only change formation when it helps the cards you actually own.
Do you need to obsess over Chemistry immediately?
No. Chemistry matters, and some Moments can require a Chemistry threshold, but a brand-new club has a limited player pool. First create a functional team with players in correct positions, then improve links as your collection grows. Rebuilding the entire squad around Chemistry before you have opened early rewards can waste Coins and time.
When should you try Rivals or online play?
There is no fixed milestone. Move online when menu navigation, passing, defending and creating chances no longer feel like separate problems. Being comfortable in Squad Battles around Semi-Pro is a useful training signal, not a formal requirement. Your first online results say more about the experience gap than the long-term quality of your club.
Co-op can shorten the learning curve
Modes such as Squad Battles and Rivals can support playing with a friend. Use Play with Friends to invite someone. EA suggests that if your friend is more experienced and you want to use their squad, let them invite you. Treat the session as a lesson: watch squad setup, passing choices and defensive movement rather than focusing only on the result.
Why check the FUT Gallery early?
FC 27's FUT Gallery creates a record of many Player Items that pass through your club and uses Gallery Sets to unlock rewards. A card can remain part of your Gallery history even if you later sell or quicksell it. The Gallery is therefore not only a collection screen; check it periodically to see whether Sets are approaching a reward.
SBCs: useful for spare cards, dangerous if you submit blindly
Squad Building Challenges turn duplicates or rarely used Player Items into rewards and teach squad-building constraints. FC 27 also introduces Streamlined SBCs, which can use a general score based on OVR, rarity and Holographic status. The critical beginner rule is permanent: when you submit a Player Item into an SBC, it leaves your club. Review the full submission before confirming.
Do not burn your first Coins on random Packs
EA explains that FUT Coins can buy Packs or Items directly from the Transfer Market. Zaplat's beginner advice is to preserve most early Coins until Foundations, Moments and Squad Battles have shown you what your real weak positions are. A specific Transfer Market purchase is easier to plan than a random pack when resources are limited.
Wait before committing an Evolution
FUT 27 Evolutions can improve Player Items through different paths. New players should avoid putting the first acceptable card into an Evolution just because the option is available. Finish early Foundations rewards, see which players you actually use, then evolve a card that fits a real role in your club.
Zaplat's first 90-minute route
- 0–10 minutes: enter FUT and choose a Starter Pack from leagues you enjoy.
- 10–25: open Foundations > The Journey Begins and play Squad Battles on Amateur or Semi-Pro.
- 25–35: claim rewards, open what you earned and improve the squad only with clearly better cards you already have.
- 35–50: play Foundations: Beginner Moments and collect Stars.
- 50–60: return to Objectives, claim everything and check the FUT Gallery.
- 60–70: complete a Foundations/tutorial SBC only after understanding that submitted cards leave the club.
- 70–80: edit the squad while keeping players in preferred positions; avoid rewriting every tactic at once.
- 80–90: play another Squad Battles match or co-op; try Rivals only if the controls and squad now feel manageable.
Beginner mistakes that waste time or Coins
- Treating the Starter Pack as a permanent choice.
- Entering Rivals immediately with the untouched starting squad.
- Buying several players before collecting easy Foundations rewards.
- Forgetting to claim completed Objectives.
- Using an Out of Position player without a reason.
- Submitting an important card into an SBC without checking the final squad.
- Spending early Coins quickly on random Packs.
- Changing formation and tactics everywhere before identifying the actual problem.
