League gifting is simple only after every eligibility rule lines up. A friend can appear perfectly normal in your Social Panel and still show a disabled Give Gift option because the account is too new on your friend list, one of you is on the wrong shard, a level requirement is missing, a daily limit has been reached, or gifting is temporarily unavailable in your region.
First check: is gifting currently available?
Riot tells players to check the in-client ticker if gifting is not working. Regional outages or temporary gifting disablement can make every other eligibility check irrelevant until the service is restored.
The core requirements for sending a gift
- Sender and recipient must be on the same shard region.
- The recipient must have been on your friend list for at least seven days; Turkey and Brazil require 14 days.
- Neither sender nor recipient can be banned or suspended, including temporary/Instant Feedback System restrictions.
- For normal content gifting, the sender must be at least level 10.
- For RP gifting, the sender must be at least level 15.
- Brazil uses additional stricter requirements explained below.
Same shard means the same League region
Gifting is not cross-region. Riot’s example is that both players must be on the same shard such as NA or EUW. A Riot ID friendship alone does not bypass the underlying game-region restriction.
How long do you need to be friends?
The normal requirement is seven days on the sender’s friend list. Turkey and Brazil require 14 days. Removing a friend and adding them again resets that waiting period: Riot says you must re-add them and wait the required seven or 14 days again.
Content gifting limits
- Sender level: at least 10.
- Up to 10 content gifts sent per 24 hours.
- Up to 10 content gifts received per 24 hours.
- The limit is rolling, not a midnight reset.
What does a rolling 24-hour limit mean?
After you hit the limit, capacity returns as individual gifts age past 24 hours. Riot’s Mystery Gifting FAQ illustrates the same rolling behavior: the 11th gift becomes available 24 hours after the first purchase, the 12th 24 hours after the second, and so on.
RP gifting limits
- Sender level: at least 15.
- Up to 5 RP gifts sent per 24 hours.
- Up to 5 RP gifts received per 24 hours.
Brazil has separate stricter rules
Riot’s current Gifting Guide lists a Brazil-only section with stricter requirements for both sender and receiver.
- Sender must be Summoner Level 32.
- Receiver must also be Summoner Level 32.
- Friendship must be at least 14 days.
- Up to 2 content gifts sent per day and 2 received per day.
- Up to 2 RP gifts sent per day and 2 received per day.
What can you gift?
Riot’s standard gifting guide currently lists these categories:
- Champions.
- Skins.
- Ward skins.
- RP.
- Summoner icons.
- Rune pages.
- Hextech keys.
- Hextech chests.
- Gifting-specific event loot.
Can you transfer RP or content you already own?
No. The Gifting Center does not work as an inventory-transfer system. Riot says you cannot gift RP or content that you already own from your account; gifting is handled through the gifting purchase flow.
Two ways to send a normal gift
- Store route: open the Store, click the gift box, choose the friend, choose the gift type and item, add a message, then send.
- Social Panel route: right-click the friend and choose Give Gift, which takes you into the same Gifting Center flow.
Why is Give Gift greyed out?
Riot explicitly says a greyed-out Social Panel action means the recipient is not eligible to receive a gift from you or you are not eligible to send one.
- Friendship period has not reached 7 days or 14 days in Turkey/Brazil.
- One account is banned or suspended.
- You are below the required sender level.
- You are on different shards.
- You reached the rolling 24-hour send limit.
- The recipient reached the receive limit.
- Regional gifting is temporarily unavailable.
- Brazil-specific level or daily limits are not met.
Prepaid cards do not work through the Gifting Center
Riot says only certain payment methods are available in the Gifting Center. If you want to give a prepaid RP card, the practical route is to send the card PIN to your friend so they can redeem it through the League client.
Mystery Gifts are a separate gift type
Mystery Gifting lets you send either a random Mystery Skin for a champion your friend owns or a random Mystery Champion they do not own. Riot’s current price is 490 RP, while the gift is guaranteed to have a value of at least 520 RP.
Mystery Skin eligibility
The recipient can only receive a skin for a champion they already own. Eligible skins must normally be worth at least 520 RP and be available for Mystery Gifting. The system does not give duplicate skins the recipient already owns.
Mystery Skin exclusions
Riot lists several exclusions, including achievement skins, Collector’s Edition skins, PAX skins, Rusty Blitzcrank, Urf the Manatee, Championship Riven and Riot Squad Singed. Mythic skins craftable with Mythic Essence are also excluded from Mystery Gifts.
Mystery Champion eligibility
The random champion must be one the recipient does not own and it must be valued at 520 RP or more.
Extra pool-size requirements for Mystery Gifts
- Mystery Skin: the recipient needs at least 10 unowned eligible skins for champions they own.
- Mystery Champion: the recipient needs at least 10 unowned champions.
- Icons and ward skins do not have those specific pool-size restrictions.
Can you Mystery Gift yourself?
Normally no. Riot says self-Mystery Gifting is not generally available, although special events may occasionally allow it.
Can a gift be reversed or refunded?
No. Riot states that normal gifts cannot be reversed, and Mystery Gifts are non-reversible and non-refundable. Double-check the recipient and item before confirming.
What if your account was hacked and gifts were sent?
That is not a normal gifting mistake. Riot asks hacked-account victims to submit a Player Support ticket so a specialist can investigate. Secure your email and Riot account before focusing on the store transaction.
What if you accidentally removed the friend?
Re-adding them does not preserve the old eligibility timer. Riot says the waiting period starts again, so you need another seven days—or 14 days in Turkey/Brazil—before gifting becomes available.
Why a Mystery Gift may be unavailable even when normal gifting works
Normal eligibility can be satisfied while the Mystery Gift pool is still too small. A friend who owns nearly every champion or nearly every eligible skin may fail the minimum 10-unowned-content requirement.
Example: new friend in EUW
You add a friend on EUW today. Both accounts are eligible and on the same shard, but normal gifting should remain unavailable until the seven-day friendship period is complete.
Example: friend in Turkey
Turkey uses 14 days instead of seven. Reaching day seven is not enough even if sender level and all other requirements are satisfied.
Example: RP gift from a level 12 account
Level 12 is enough for ordinary content gifting under the general rule, but it is below the level 15 requirement for RP gifting.
Example: different regions
If one account is EUW and the other EUNE, the Riot friendship does not make them gift-compatible because gifting requires the same shard.
Example: hitting the daily cap
If you send the maximum number of gifts, the limit does not reset just because the clock passes midnight. Eligibility returns on a rolling basis as earlier gifts become more than 24 hours old.
Pre-send checklist
- Confirm gifting is active in your region.
- Confirm both accounts are on the same shard.
- Confirm the friend-list age: 7 days normally, 14 in Turkey/Brazil.
- Confirm sender level for the gift type.
- Check send and receive rolling limits.
- If in Brazil, use the Brazil-specific level 32 and 2-per-day rules.
- For Mystery Gifts, verify the recipient has a large enough eligible pool.
- Double-check the recipient because successful gifts are not reversible.
Bottom line
Most League gifting failures are eligibility problems, not store bugs. Check region, friend-list age, sender level and rolling limits in that order, then check special Brazil or Mystery Gift rules. Standard content gifting, RP gifting and Mystery Gifting use different thresholds, and Riot’s current policy treats successful gifts as final—so verify the recipient before pressing Send Gift.
