League of Legends Honor System 2026: Levels, Rewards, Chat Limits and Recovery

A practical 2026 LoL Honor guide: what Honor 1–5 unlocks, how voting works, chat/ping limits, BXP and Ranked rewards, penalties, Honor Lock and recovery.

League of Legends Honor System 2026: Levels, Rewards, Chat Limits and Recovery

League's current Honor system is no longer a slow checkpoint track built around orbs and tokens. In 2026 it acts more like a live reputation layer: your recent behavior can change communication privileges, Battle Pass XP perks, Ranked reward eligibility, and access to special Honor features.

What changed from the old Honor system?

Patch 25.04 reset everyone to Honor 3 once and established Honor 3 as the neutral starting point for new players. After that overhaul, Riot says Honor does not reset, so your reputation carries forward year to year.

The old checkpoints, Honor Orbs and token-centered progression were retired in favor of level-based privileges and rewards. Riot also said leftover Honor 5 Tokens would convert to 1050 Orange Essence with Patch 25.06.

Honor 1: the most restricted normal level

  • Team Chat: available.
  • Party Chat: available.
  • All Chat: unavailable.
  • Champ Select Chat: unavailable.
  • Post-game Chat: unavailable.
  • Ping use within the five-second window before temporary lockout: 2.
  • Emote use in the same window: 2.
  • Targeted ally pings: unavailable.
  • Honor BXP drops: no.
  • Ranked season rewards: no.

Honor 2: some social access returns

  • Team and Party Chat remain available.
  • All Chat remains unavailable.
  • Champ Select and Post-game Chat are available.
  • Ping use before lockout: 4 in five seconds.
  • Emote use: 2 in five seconds.
  • Targeted ally pings remain unavailable.
  • Honor BXP drops and Ranked season rewards remain unavailable.

Honor 3: the neutral baseline

At Honor 3, All Chat joins Team, Party, Champ Select and Post-game Chat. The current table allows 6 pings and 3 emotes in the five-second anti-spam window before temporary lockout.

Honor 3 is also the first level in Riot's current table with Honor BXP drops and eligibility for Ranked season rewards, assuming you meet the Ranked requirements themselves.

Honor 4: stronger privileges

Honor 4 keeps all listed chat access, raises the ping limit to 7 and emotes to 4 in that anti-spam window, and makes Honor BXP drops slightly more frequent than at Honor 3.

Honor 5: the full current Honor package

  • Ping use before temporary lockout: 7.
  • Emote use: 5.
  • Targeted ally pings: available.
  • Honor 5 Recall: available.
  • Honor skins: unlocked.
  • Honor BXP drops: more frequent.
  • Ranked season rewards: eligible if other Ranked conditions are met.

How Honor votes work

Post-match, players can honor members of either team. You can give one vote per player, and a vote cannot be retracted once given.

  • Playing a match gives you +1 honor vote to spend.
  • Receiving honor in the previous match gives you +1 vote.
  • Being Honor 5 gives you +1 vote.
  • Unused votes carry between games, up to a maximum bank of 4.

Do premade honor votes increase Honor?

No. Riot explicitly says a vote given to someone in your premade group does not raise that player's Honor. The restriction prevents friends from simply trading progression. Positive communication and teamwork can still contribute.

Can you gain Honor without receiving votes?

Yes. Riot says positive chat, good communication and team coordination can also add Honor. There is also a small team boost when everybody on your team uses an honor vote.

Does winning matter more than behavior?

Not for Honor. A loss can still be positive for the system when you cooperate and behave well. Honor is intended to reflect current, repeated behavior rather than match results.

Why can Honor 4 or 5 fall without a ban?

High Honor is not a permanent high-water mark. Riot describes it as a measure of your current and common actions. If the positive communication and influence that got you to 4 or 5 disappears, your level may drift back toward Honor 3.

Riot says the client warns you if your behavior puts you in danger of an Honor demotion, giving you a chance to correct course.

Does taking a break lower Honor?

No. Honor only considers in-game actions and does not fall merely because you stop playing for a while.

What an account penalty does to Honor

Active penalties for negative behavior reduce Honor and are communicated in-client. Riot also maintains a separate current support page describing Honor Lock and post-penalty crafting restrictions.

Honor Lock and the reform period

When the visible penalty ends, rewards do not necessarily return immediately. Riot calls the next phase a reform period: Honor progress and certain Hextech earnings can remain locked until the account demonstrates consistent improved behavior.

There is no universal official 'X games' or 'X days' timer for the crafting/reform unlock. Its duration depends on penalty severity and behavior after the punishment.

Honor Restrictions can show match requirements

Separately, the client may offer Honor Restriction requirements that tell you how many report-free games must be completed to regain some Honor. Riot says successful redemption restores you to at least Honor 3, but may not immediately restore Honor 4 or 5.

A new penalty during an active Honor Restriction wipes the progress you made toward recovery, and later restrictions may require more games.

When do Hextech Chests and Keys return?

Riot's restriction page says you cannot earn chests or keys during the penalty and remain restricted during reform. Once Honor unlocks, Hextech Chests can be earned again even at Honor 0; key fragments and other rewards resume at Honor 1 under that support guidance.

A safe recovery plan

  • Stop the behavior that caused the penalty instead of chasing a match count.
  • Keep comms focused on useful game information.
  • Mute and report instead of escalating arguments.
  • Complete any Honor Restriction shown by the client without new reports.
  • Do not spam games expecting a fixed timer; Riot does not promise one.
  • Watch your Profile/client for the Honor unlock notification.

Does Honor transfer between servers?

Yes. Riot's current Honor FAQ says your Honor level travels with you on a server transfer.

Honor and the upcoming Team Voice expansion

In its September 8, 2026 dev update, Riot said it is expanding voice toward full-team communication and plans to tie speaking access to Honor level. That rollout is not a universal current entitlement on every server, so treat it as a planned Honor-linked feature and check regional availability.

What if Honor looks stuck?

Check the Profile and in-client penalty notices first. If Honor is locked after a penalty, reform is behavior-based rather than a fixed timer. If the client state contradicts the penalty notice or remains locked after you receive an unlock message, that is a reasonable point to contact Riot Support.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming Honor resets to 3 every season: it does not after the 25.04 overhaul.
  • Assuming premade votes increase Honor: they do not.
  • Assuming inactivity lowers Honor: it does not.
  • Assuming the end of a chat restriction instantly restores all loot: reform can continue afterward.
  • Confusing Honor 5 with MMR or LP: they are separate systems.
  • Assuming every post-penalty recovery has a fixed duration: Riot does not publish one.

Quick level checklist

  • Honor 1: restricted comms; no Honor BXP or Ranked season rewards.
  • Honor 2: Champ Select/Post-game chat returns, but All Chat remains unavailable.
  • Honor 3: neutral baseline, All Chat, BXP and Ranked reward eligibility.
  • Honor 4: higher comms limits and slightly more frequent BXP drops.
  • Honor 5: targeted ally pings, Recall/skins and the most frequent Honor BXP drops.
  • After a penalty: follow the displayed Honor Restriction/reform path instead of looking for a timer bypass.

Bottom line

The useful way to read Honor in 2026 is as a moving reputation-and-privilege system, not the old reward checkpoint track. Honor 3 is the baseline, 4 and 5 reward sustained positive behavior, and 1–2 remove social and reward privileges. After a penalty, consistent reform and the client-displayed requirements—not a magic date—are the route back.
