Passing in EA SPORTS FC 27 is less about finding the strongest input and more about deciding where the ball should arrive: to a teammate’s feet, into space ahead of a run, over a defender, or quickly through a lane before it closes. FC 27 puts more responsibility on aim and power, especially for Through and Dinked Passes, so reading movement matters more than expecting assistance to rescue a poor direction.
First decision: feet or space?
If your teammate is checking toward the ball orstanding in a safe lane, think Ground orDriven Ground. If they are accelerating behind the line, Through orLobbed Through is usually the better family of pass. Passing to feet protects possession; passing into space tries to create progression.
Ground Pass: possession baseline
EA recommends Ground Pass for a nearby teammate, short combinations and keeping possession. Aim toward the teammate and use enough power to reach them. When the lane is clear and extra speed is unnecessary, this is the cleanest option.
Through Pass: aim into the runner’s path
Through Pass places the ball into space ahead of a teammate making a run. In FC 27, EA reduced the assistance that could previously redirect ground and lobbed Through Passes away from your input toward open lanes. Your aim now matters more. Point at the space you want attacked, not simply at the runner’s current body position.
Zaplat advice: watch the first steps of the run before releasing the pass. A diagonal run needs a diagonal lane; forcing a straight Through ball into a defender is now less likely to be corrected for you.
Lob Pass and Cross
A Lob Pass moves the ball through the air to a teammate, while the same pass family is used for crosses from wide areas. More power is useful for longer switches. FC 27 also gives crossing aim and power more influence, with crosses going into space more often instead of locking directly to a player.
Lobbed Through Pass: over the line, into space
Use Lobbed Through when a defender blocks the ground lane but there is space behind the defensive line. The goal is not just to lift the ball; it is to lead the runner over orpast the defender.
Driven Ground Pass: speed before the lane closes
Driven Ground is a faster pass along the turf. EA recommends it for moving quickly through midfield, covering longer ground distances, orfinding a teammate before the lane disappears. The trade-off is receiving speed: make sure the target has enough space and control to handle the ball.
Dinked Pass in FC 27: fully manual
Dinked Pass is one of FC 27’s most important passing changes. EA says it is fully manual, meaning the ball goes where you aim. After Closed Beta feedback, Ground Pass can no longer trigger a Dinked Pass by repeated presses. Double-tapping orspamming Ground Pass results in a normal Ground Pass.
How do you perform a Dinked Pass?
EA’s current instruction is simple: double tap Through Pass and manually aim where you want the ball to go. The game is not choosing the lane for you.
When is Dinked better than a normal Through Pass?
Use it when a short ground lane is blocked by a foot orchallenge but there is a small pocket beyond the defender, orwhen you need a light lift rather than a longer Lobbed Through ball. Because it is manual, poor aim orpower can turn a clever idea into an easy turnover.
Passing assistance still matters
EA Help notes that passing assistance settings can affect different pass types. Check Gameplay Settings if passes behave differently from what you expect. In FC 27, reduced Through Pass steering and manual Dinked Pass make it especially useful to understand your assistance level rather than assuming every miss is a bug.
Pass power is not just distance
Power needs to get the ball there before the defender, but not arrive so hard that the receiver struggles. A short Ground Pass needs less, a switch needs more, and Driven is inherently quicker. Receiving space changes the correct choice even at the same distance.
Passing PlayStyles that change execution
Incisive Pass improves Through Pass accuracy and also boosts Swerve and Precision passing. Pinged Pass speeds ground passes without increasing trapping difficulty. Tiki Taka specializes in accurate short and first-time Ground Passes. Long Ball Pass improves Lob and Lofted Through Passes. Inventive improves Fancy and Trivela passes. Whipped Pass improves the accuracy, speed and curve of crosses.
FC 27 note on Tiki Taka
EA rebalanced Tiki Taka in FC 27. The previous animation playback speed boost and the effect that slightly reduced receiver trapping error were removed, refocusing the PlayStyle on quick combination passing instead of disproportionately improving first touch.
Match the PlayStyle to the job
- Breaking a line with a runner: Incisive Pass.
- Fast ground circulation: Pinged Pass.
- Short one-touch combinations: Tiki Taka.
- Switches and lofted balls behind the line: Long Ball Pass.
- Fancy orTrivela passing: Inventive.
- Cross-heavy winger orfullback: Whipped Pass.
Movement matters more than the pass name
FC 27’s Attacking Spatial Awareness and manual run options can create better lanes, but you still need to wait for the movement to open them. Do not play Through just because your striker is fast. If the run checks toward you instead of behind, a Ground Pass may be the correct choice.
How to check your actual controls
Inputs depend on platform and control setup. From Main Menu: Play > Learn to Play > Practice Arena > Pause > Button Help. During a match: Pause > Settings > Basic Controls. Use your own layout instead of copying a chart that may not match your settings.
15-minute passing practice
- Five minutes: Ground and Driven to a stationary teammate while varying power.
- Five minutes: Through and Lobbed Through to a moving runner, aiming at space rather than the player.
- Five minutes: Dinked Pass by double tapping Through Pass and manually choosing the target space.
- Repeat with an Incisive, Pinged orLong Ball passer to feel the execution differences.
- Finish in Kick-Off and focus on choosing the correct pass rather than forcing one mechanic.
Common passing mistakes
- Aiming a Through Pass at the runner’s body instead of the space ahead.
- Using Driven Ground to a receiver already under immediate pressure.
- Playing Lobbed Through when no run exists.
- Double-tapping Ground Pass and expecting Dinked in FC 27.
- Assuming assistance will correct a badly aimed Through Pass.
- Overpowering a pass just because the target is slightly farther away.
- Choosing a famous PlayStyle that does not match the passes you actually use.
