FC 27 Squad Battles Guide: Battle Points, Ranks, Co-Op, Refreshes and Rewards

Squad Battles in EA SPORTS FC 27 Ultimate Team is the weekly competitive mode against AI-controlled versions of real community squads. The important part is not simply beating the CPU: your weekly competition matches award Battle Points, those points determine your Rank, and a few bad decisions—such as refreshing before playing the available opponents or entering Co-Op with a friend who has no competitive matches left—can cost you scoring opportunities.

How the weekly Squad Battles competition works

Each week includes competition matches that count toward your Squad Battles weekly score. When those matches are finished, the mode remains playable, but additional matches stop contributing Battle Points to the weekly competition. They can still pay Coins and advance Objectives, so there is still value after your competitive scoring window ends.

What are Battle Points?

Battle Points are the scoring currency for the weekly Squad Battles competition. EA says the amount you earn depends on whether you win or lose and the difficulty selected for the match. Your weekly total determines your Rank.

Should you always choose the highest difficulty?

No single difficulty is automatically best for every player. Zaplat advice: use the highest level where you can still produce reliable results. A theoretically higher payout does not help if moving up a difficulty turns consistent wins into repeated losses. Increase difficulty gradually and compare your actual results.

Why your Rank can move while you are offline

Ranks are based on Battle Points relative to the rest of the weekly player population. Because other players continue adding points, your position can fall even after you stop playing. EA says the leaderboard updates approximately every five minutes, so a rank shown midweek is not a locked final result.

Is the Squad Battles leaderboard cross-platform?

EA's current guide says the Your Rank view combines Xbox and PlayStation players even if you have not opted into cross-play. Instead of individual names, it displays progression brackets. Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 use separate leaderboards.

Where Squad Battles opponents come from

The AI controls squads that were created by real Ultimate Team players. EA says opponent squads can come from players who used them in Squad Battles, Draft, Champions or Rivals. At the start of a new Squad Battles competition or after an Opponent Update, FC selects one squad from each Easy, Medium and Hard bucket, plus a fourth squad from either Easy or Medium with a 50% chance for each bucket.

Refreshes are not a free reroll

You choose when to refresh opponents, but there is a major cost if you refresh too soon. If you have not played all four currently available matches, the unplayed matches still count toward your weekly competition matches. You receive no Battle Points for those skipped games. Do not use Refresh as if it simply replaces an opponent at no cost.

When should you refresh?

The safest time is after completing the current set, or when you deliberately accept losing the unused scoring opportunities. Zaplat advice: avoid refreshing just because one opponent looks difficult. If Rank matters, playing the match is usually better than turning it into guaranteed zero Battle Points.

Featured Squad Battles

Featured Squad Battles are special matches against squads created by recognizable FC community members, such as real footballers or professional players. EA allows Featured Squads to be replayed to improve your score, giving you a useful second chance that ordinary weekly opponents do not provide in the same way.

How Co-Op works

Invite a friend from the Ultimate Team Main Menu and play together against AI-controlled squads. The Lobby Captain selects the opponent and difficulty. When the match is eligible, both players earn Battle Points and Coins.

The Co-Op rule that can waste a scoring match

If either player in the Co-Op lobby has no weekly competition matches remaining, neither player earns Battle Points from that match. You can still play, but it will not contribute to the weekly competition. Check both accounts before starting a Co-Op session intended for Rank progress.

Do you get Battle Points if you leave early?

No. EA says ending a match early gives no Battle Points for that match. Skipping a match by refreshing also gives no points. Because weekly scoring opportunities are limited, unnecessary quits can cost more than the loss itself.

What you can still earn after your competitive matches

You may continue playing Squad Battles after the weekly competition matches are exhausted. Those matches do not add to the weekly score, but you can still earn Coins and make progress on Objectives. This makes the mode useful for low-pressure grinding even after Rank scoring is finished.

When Squad Battles rewards arrive

EA says rewards are delivered shortly after the weekly competition ends. Your final Battle Points and final Rank determine your position. A temporary Rank before the competition closes is not the same as the final result.

A practical weekly plan

  1. Choose a difficulty where your results are stable rather than chasing the highest setting.
  2. Complete the current four opponents before refreshing whenever practical.
  3. Use Featured Squad replays when you have a realistic chance to improve the score.
  4. Monitor Rank during the week and leave a points buffer instead of relying on a temporary cutoff.
  5. For Co-Op, confirm that both players still have weekly competition matches remaining.
  6. Avoid unnecessary quits because a competitive match can become a zero-point opportunity.
  7. After competitive matches are exhausted, use extra games for Coins and Objectives rather than expecting more Battle Points.

Squad Battles or Rivals?

Squad Battles is the better fit when you want AI opponents, lower-pressure Objective progress or a weekly competitive score without facing another person. Rivals is direct player-versus-player competition and also feeds Champions qualification. They are complementary rather than mutually exclusive: Squad Battles can build resources and Objectives while Rivals provides human competition.

Common mistakes

  • Refreshing before playing all four current opponents without realizing skipped matches still count.
  • Choosing a difficulty above your reliable level for theoretical points.
  • Assuming your current Rank is locked until rewards.
  • Starting Co-Op with a friend who has already used all competition matches and expecting Battle Points.
  • Quitting a competitive match and expecting partial Battle Points.
  • Assuming matches after your weekly competitive allotment still increase the weekly score.
